Mig Does Seal
Anyone who had as much as tried singing Seal's Kiss from a Rose could attest that it's a really really hard piece to do mainly because its normal pitch is sung an octave higher than what most men could usually normally do. It is not your usual kara/vide-oke piece despite the song's popularity in the mid-90s. I bought Seal's album because of the power this track had over me (even though Prayer for the Dying first gained popularity with its nicely made minimalist-themed music video) as it invokes a deep, seering feeling in an unusually dark mood, more like dreading a great thing.
That had been the case with me even before the song was featured in the gothic Batman movie as it's OST. It could be argued that no other artist could imbibe in all the emotions this song could ever require and mean to have other than its composer, Seal.
That WAS the case.
Until Mig Ayesa did a cover version yesterday over at Rockstar INXS. He did the song and composition justice with his personally subtle and equally thought provocative style. He's still in the bottom three tonight despite the performance but he did a more-than-great job.
In Seal's album, instead of lyrics, you would find, as he explained, that the reason for his deciding not to publish the lyrics of his songs was primarily becasue some lyrics, though not as it was written or intended by the composer, suddenly means something to the listener because of their interpretation of the song, or the way they thought the song lyrics went. I made the following up as an example:
Correct: "love remains a drug that's the high and not the pill"
The wrong but meaningful version: "love remained a drug that is high and up the cliff"
Go ahead, laugh out loud, we could never tell just how the wrong version changed the way one person saw the world as he might have held on to it, like mantra, for dear life.

Well written, Fritz! Ramdam ko ang passion mo for the song, kiss from a rose. I like that song too, though I never figured out the song in its entireity.
Relieved ako kahapon na nag-bottom three na si MiG. Kahiya naman kung makarating siya sa top three just by sheer audience votes.
Abangan natin next week. Sana sana sana MiG puts up a good show. But marty and jd are great performers too. we'll see.
Eto todong confession, yung wrong but meaningful version sa taas, akin yun, version ko yun. Pero for the post's purpose eh sinabi ko ng pwedeng maging ganun sya ka-barok pero meaningful sa ibang tao. Sa akin naman tamang wrong version lang talaga sya. Hehehe.
Ako, rin, I could not really figure it out, up until now. It defies nga yung common notion ko na dapat na-eexpalin ko lahat ng opinions ko. Dito sa case na to pumalpak yung idea na yun kasi hindi ko mapaliwanag ang dating nung kanta.
Hindi na ganung ka-grabeng ka-intense yun now pero dati mas ang tindi.
Naaaliw lang ako sa performances nila. Magaling kasi ang format ng show and yun ang nagpa-curious sa akin at first. Pero pag naririnig mo na binibigyang buhay nila ang mga lumang kantang nakalimutan mo na, ibang klase, nakakatindig balahibo.
Sayang, wala na yung magagaling na chicks.

I got the chance to watch it live nung leave ako, trying to rest. Medyo intense nga ang competition but I was pretty sure boys ang matitira. And kahit na girl ako parang I can't imagine a girl as the vocalist ng INXS.
onga, parang awkward kung babae tas young pa, parang "you are just not right for our band INXS." sabi nung isa kong kaibigang sumusubaybay eh bat pa kelangang sabihin yung INXS na name pag sinasabi yung phrase na yun sa elimination eh parang may iba pa bang band na sasalihan sa contest?! hehehe. ang kulet. sayang lang kasi napaka-talented nila, more than the idols, if i may say so. cool yung part lage na pakakantahin sila impromptu, eh andami kayang kanta ng bandang yon!

anyhoo, ikaw pala ang makakausap ko about rockstar:INXS. sayang, na-miss ko yung performance ni mig. nagulat ako na si suzie yung natanggal. kala ko talaga si mig na.
i'm rooting for JD! either siya or si marty. pero JD pa ren.
may hits kasi ako galing sa site mo so I went to check it out. as with rockstar INXS, masaya to bukas and thursday, finals na eh. hindi ko actually talagang natutukan before, natuwa lang ako nung marami palang nahuhumaling. ok sila. talented talaga. magaling yung gumawa ng concept ng show na yun. matalino. humakot ng airtime and fans for a long dormant band and put it to good use to plug the band as well. ibang klase. oks din ako kay JD as compared to the other two, though hindi ko nga talaga nakita yung mga dating performance. susto ko sana si jordice-something (not sure of the spelling, hehehe). kaya lang wala na sya. very cool ang mga ladies nilang contestants. pucha.
